Oh yeah ... in my classroom WE always have our hustle on.  We are all about giving it 100% .... alllllll day errrrrrday!  So in life, people are rewarded for that hustle, a job well done and achieving THAT goal. You feel proud when you are actively working hard towards a goal.  In my class, I use a few ways to acknowledge student success to build self esteem and work ethic.

I love glow sticks!  I always have, since I was little.  This school year I made a bunch of glow stick tags to hand out to celebrate successes.

My kids LOVED receiving these at random times throughout the year.  You never know when you were going to get a "glowing" reward for doing a super job!  You can check out the glow stick tags here.  These are super easy and an inexpensive way to celebrate a success!

Also, with my glow stick craze, I asked my students what they wanted to earn if we filled our compliment jar.  The compliment jar consisted of puff balls and a container from Dollar Tree.  As a class, we were looking for compliments from other teachers and staff in our school.  We did not tell anyone, but we worked hard all around the school being on our best behavior to receive a compliment.

I offered a couple of class rewards, like extra recess or a neon math party.   We voted and the neon math party...WON!  What is a neon math party?  A neon math party consists of turning the lights off, pulling the shades down, glow necklaces and bracelets, neon pencils, neon paper with math, and music.  What I did NOT know... was that this was going to be one of the HIGHLIGHTS of the school year!  My students worked the ENTIRE time on math having such a good time.  :):):)

I totally was expecting them to choose extra recess, but this neon math party...was outstanding.  Kids love glow sticks and you can make some fun puns (I love a cheesy saying)!

So glow sticks are one way that I reward and motivate my students.  Check back soon for another way I reward and motivate my students.

Hi Friends!

Can you believe that we are already in the middle of March?  But don't worry as *LUCK* would have it, we just had a GIANT snow storm here in Massachusetts.  I am on my second snow day in a row, now that is UNLUCKY!  This teacher does not want to be going to school later in June... #summertimesadness

In my class, we have been SHAMROCKIN' our addition strategies.  This year we are using three different strategies: place value chart, new groups below (standard algorithm from Eureka math), and expanded form.  These strategies give students three different ways to solve addition problems.  Using strategies differentiates to meet the needs of all students in the class.  Students are able to discuss and explain their thinking through the strategies.  We are now on to addition within 1,000.  YAY!!!!  Shamrockin' it!
Grab some task cards ... here!

And ... because I love St. Paddy's Day and all that it entails... I have made some freebie glow stick tags for you!  Glow sticks are a REAL crowd pleaser in my class!  They are a FUN and inexpensive way to add some holiday cheer!

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you enjoy these freebies!  :)

 Hi Friends!

It has been WAY too long since I wrote a blog post.  But, what better way to spend a snow day than with some catching up.  At the beginning of this school year, I purchased a condo, you're immediately thinking I am crazy because you KNOW how insane the beginning of the year is! I mean if the beginning of the year doesn't have enough going on... why not purchase a condo.  First of all, I had NO idea about the home buying process and how intense it is.  That being said, I had the best loan officer, who was so great and calmed my *slightly* over the top nerves.  Hey ... I survived the beginning of the school year and buying a condo ... I am officially ADULTING!

So you want to know how adulting is going ... I am killing it (insert crying laughing emoji)!    I am loving decorating my new place, but it can be a little overwhelming at times.  Who knew there were so many decisions to make.  I really think wish that I was Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper. Can I get some subway tiles?!?!?!  And apparently I LOVE quotes because I have so many sayings in this place (I enjoy the positive vibes of the quotes) ... and obviously RAE DUNN everything except the butter dish that is NO where!!!!! Oh and the hot mess part ... I have managed to lose a set of keys that had my mail key and my garage door opener haha it's FINE! hahahaha

Now, on to the school year... this school year has been FLYING by.  Is it already the 100th day of school?   Well, we have been doing so much work, work, work, work, work.  *I can hear my students saying, "Miss VonKahle you love commas."   Yes, yes I do!

Our learning isn't always pinterest worthy or instagram ready=hot mess class!  We are on the floor a lot and spread out over the class working in different spaces.  My "rug" are mats I bought at Home Depot.  I prefer the mats over the rugs because you can clorox wipe and disinfect!  But, despite the pictures not worthy of pinterest, my little friends in my class are seriously making progress!!!!  We have them googling questions that have about their nonfiction reading, going back and re-reading their writing, using their math strategies, and that accountable talk... :):)   I am really proud at how far they have come already!  Here's to another 80 days of learning!

Tell All Tuesday: Summer Recharge

Hi Friends!
I am linking up with Jayme from Teach Talk Inspire and Diana from My Day in K for Tell All Tuesday 2.0!

Summertime Recharge for teachers is SO important.  You need some YOU time to relax and rest up for the upcoming school year.  I love summer and lucky for me I live in New England super close to beaches and lakes.  There are a lot of options to enjoy summer!

I love spending time tanning at the beach, boating, creating stuff for my class, reading, and laughing with my fam and friends!!!!!!!!!  That is how I recharge!!!!!

I usually do not have time to read for pleasure during the school year, but over the summer I DEF can!!!!  Here are the books that I have read so far... I really LOVED them all ...

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you are recharging and enjoying your summer!

Hi Friends!

Blogging is so much easier to keep up with in the summer... :)  Today I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five For Friday!  I love summer, there is SO much to do, but I also get some time to rest!

Check out my five for Friday ...

This week I was able to spend time with my cousin, Kendie!  We blew up some ridiculous floats and headed to the beach.  Unfortunately, it was low tide and the waves were not crazy like they usually are!  Next time we will check out the tide schedule before we go.  We also went to a farmer's market.  We walked around and checked out the different vendors.  We bought some fresh veggies for a stir fry.  I love spending time with her!

I really do not like to just sit and do nothing, therefore, I am usually prepping something while watching TV.   Lucky for me I can always find some good help.  Kendie helped me laminate my centers for the beginning of the year.  She gets to watch her youtube videos and help me out!  It is a win all around.

AHHHH!!!  THOSE school supplies ... hahaha  I have a friend who will NOT go to Target with me during B2S time.  She was horrified at the amount of stuff I needed :)!
Thank you Teaching Maddeness for posting on Instagram those frisbees from Michael's, I obviously went right out to get those for end of the year gifts!!!!  YAY!

Then, I have been to both Walmart and Target ... notebooks, pencils, crayons, and glue sticks GALORE!  ANDDDD... obviously I had to casually go to Lakeshore Learning... AND ... they conveniently had NEW stuff to go with my theme. :)  What a coincidence :)

My mom and sister have been on *most* of my B2S shopping trips!  They are very helpful, both telling me that I am being ridiculous and that I don't need that hahhaa AND helping me find what I *really* need.  Searching and digging through boxes to find the same color folders and notebooks.  They know my crazy and help me!

PS - those racecar whiteboard erasers are magnetic and are EVERYTHING! hahaha IF you can get whiteboard erasers that are magnetic ... GET THEM!!!!

Over the school year, I make a ton of random stuff that I need for my class, but I do not have enough time to finish or make it TpT worthy.  Over the summer, I have time to organize and post new products.  A game that I love and my students love is KABOOM!  We use this game ALL the time in my class for sight words, phonics games, and math facts.  I finally put together my addition fact fluency for all seasons/holidays KABOOM!  The game of KABOOM! is low prep and has HIGH engagement for my students.

I don't technically work over the summer and I have plenty of time to enjoy myself with friends and family!  We had a new little member enter our clique!  We are obsessed with her cuteness, she is definitely a keeper! :)

Tell All Tuesday: 7-20-16

Hi Friends!

I know that I am a day late on linking up for Tell All Tuesday... but ask my friends ... they wouldn't be surprised that I am late!  Not my best quality, but I own it! hahaha

Well anyways, I am linking up with Jayme from Teach Talk Inspire and Diana from My Day in K for the second week of Tell All Tuesday Summer Snapshot!

Hello Lake Life!
My best friend's fam has a lake house that I frequent often and I find it SOOOOOO relaxing!  I love waking up to this beautiful view, getting my tan on, and boating with some quiet ones! :)

Thank you for checking out my Summer Snapshot!!! :)

Hi friends!!!!

We all know that once school starts back up we are going in a million different directions.  So, when there are days I don't have plans or if I know of a rainy day during summer, I like to take advantage and be productive.  Being productive during the summer will make for an easier transition B2S!

So... I love glow sticks and love a cheesy saying.  So with my love for both those things I made a glow stick tag for all occasions! :)
You can find glow sticks inexpensive at the Dollar Tree or Michael's Craft Store.

They are easy to make and a favorite positive reinforcement with the students!

Next up:

Alright, where do ALL the pencils go?????????
Why do they break, or not sharpen or go MIA????

The pencil drama makes me see red! hahaha  I can't keep up with sharpening and I think I go through 982398293829389 pencils a year.
No, I do not have a remedy for this drama (hahaha) but I do have a system I use to keep my pencil sharpener safe.  :)
Two pails from the dollar spot at Target.  One is labeled pencils, where sharpened pencils will be placed by me.  The other is labeled with need to be sharpened, where students will place their unsharpened/broken pencils.  I will be the *only* person to sharpen pencils!
Grab the labels here for free!

Take advantage when you feel motivated to get ahead before the crazy B2S schedule begins!!!!!!
